Wondering which smoke alarm you need?

Our Smoke and Gas Detectors Buying Guide has a wealth of information to help you decide which Smoke Alarms to buy, plus installation tips, maintenance advice, and guidance on certification standards and relevant regulations to be aware of.

What is the maximum distance can the alarms be connected?

The wireless interconnect function allows up to 20 wireless alarms to be linked over a maximum distance of 80 metres in a open space and a maximum of 30m for indoor

Where is the best place to locate the alarm?

It is ideal for kitchens, garages, cellars, boiler rooms, attics and other areas where there are normally high levels of fumes, smoke or dust which preclude the use of smoke alarms due to the risk of false alarms.

What is the ideal position of the alarm?

As hot air rises and spreads, it is advisable to mount on a ceiling in a central position. Avoid areas where there is no air circulation. E.g. corners of rooms and keep away from items which may prevent the free flow of air. Place the unit at least 300mm from any light fittings or decorative objects which might obstruct smoke entering the alarm. Keep at least 300mm away from walls.

What is the maximum activation temperature of the alarm?

This Heat alarm gives a fire warning when the temperature at the unit reaches 60ºC.

How do you position on a sloping ceiling and is it wall mountable?

Yes it is wall mountable. It's advisable not to mount tight into the corners. Put the top edge of your alarm between 150 and 300mm below the ceiling. Keep at least 300mm from room corners. In areas with sloping or peaked ceilings install your alarm in accordance with Figure 3ii (see data sheet linked on the product page) because "dead air" at the apex may not allow hot air to adequately enter the alarm.
