Fire Extinguishers

Fire Extinguishers are a vital addition to any and every workplace to allow for immediate reponse to a fire emergency. According to the UK Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, every building must have at least two Class A extinguishers on every floor, as well as extinguishers suitable for the types of materials or work activities of the individual business.

There are several different classes of fire extinguisher that are suitable for various types of fires, and it's important that the correct extinguisher is available in areas where the relevant ignition materials are present:

  • Class A - for use on flammable solid fires, such as wood, paper, fabrics etc.
  • Class B - for use on flammable liquid fires, such as oil, petrol, alcohol, and certain paints
  • Class C - for use on flammable gas fires, such as propane and natural gases
  • Class D - for use on combustible metal fires, such as magnesium, potassium etc.
  • Class F - for use on cooking fires ignited by oil, fat or grease
  • Extinguishers suitable for electrical fires are identified with a symbol of an electric spark, and are suitable for fires caused by electrical equipment
