What makes fire door handles different from standard handle sets?

Fire door handle sets are uniquely engineered to withstand elevated temperatures and comply with stringent safety regulations for fire doors. Fire door handles are also designed to release the door latch easily and quickly, allowing for a faster evacuation without the need to spend time struggling to find keys; generally, fire doors employ either push bars or latches.

Why do fire doors need to be latched or bolted?

For a fire door to function as it should, it must remain closed when not in use to provide an effective barrier against smoke and flames should a fire occur. Once a fire door closes, latches or bolts keep it in place, ensuring your passive fire safety precautions are acting as they should.

Most fire door latches/bolts are designed to be easy to open without the need to struggle with keys or individual multiple locking points and employ a simple push bar or pad to release the latches/bolts for instant emergency exit.

How are Fire Door Latches/Bolts installed, and can I fit them myself?

The installation of any Fire Door hardware must not compromise the fire door's integrity, so it is strongly advised that you get a professional to install any Fire Door accessories.

What is CE and Certifire certification?

The CE marking indicates that the marked product complies with the legislative requirements set by the European Union and is recognised for ensuring the product meets regulatory standards.

Certifier certification is achieved via an independent third-party scheme that focuses solely on fire product certification. Certifire assures you of a product’s quality and conformity, as well as ensuring the performance, quality, reliability and traceability of the product is up to standards. The Certifire brand is globally recognised as the international mark for fire safety.
