How do photoluminescent fire exit signs work?
Photoluminescent (aka Glow in the Dark) signs charge using artificial or natural light. When it gets dark, the stored light is re-emitted and gives off a green glow. Photoluminescent materials are ideal for use on safety signs so they are visible in all light conditions should a power cut occur in an emergency, as they require no batteries or mains electricity connection.
How long do photoluminescent fire exit signs last?
Photoluminescent materials can last for a variety of time, depending on the PSPA classification:

Certain classes have a stronger and longer luminance period, but the majority of classes last for up to an hour.
Can photoluminescent fire exit signs be used outdoors?
Yes, photoluminescent coatings function in both artificial and natural light, however, photoluminescence can be applied to a variety of base materials from adhesive vinyl to plastics. As such, it would depend on what material the sign it’s applied to is made of – though we would recommend any self-adhesive vinyl signage should be used indoors to prevent damage from outdoor weather conditions.
